On the Border: We have a yummy fundraiser for the team next week. The On the Border restaurant in Parkway Plaza has agreed to give the team 20% on meals purchased next Monday and Thursday with our flyer! We did this for the boys polo team last fall and it was a great success!

Here's the flyer, which is set up with 2 flyers per page for you to easily copy, cut and hand out to your family and friends: PDF | MS Word [alternate version with one flyer per page: PDF]

We do need to get an idea of how many are coming each night. So please RSVP to Diane Griffin (who set this up!) before Monday: diana.griffin@navy.mil (This is mainly to RSVP your family - we know you won't know if others you invite will be coming or not)

What follows is a summary of information given at tonight's parent meeting, along with additional information promised at the meeting:

- First, because of Wednesday's minimum day, the practice schedule is as follows:
If in Aquatics class (7th period) - 11:45a-1:45p
If not in Aquatics class - 12:15-2p

- The swim team website has been updated with the following info:

Coach contact info: /swim/2006/coaches.html
Practice & season schedules: /swim/2006/schedule.html
News (including the info in this email): /swim/2006/news.html

- It is district policy that ALL student athletes must ride the provided school bus to AND from our away swim meets. If you need an exception, please get the form at the school office and submit it 24 hours in advance. Generally there will be no bus service for weekend or out-of-town meets and for the leagues prelims and finals.

- We need parents to volunteer as lane timers and in the snack bar. We will email more information soon.

- If your child hasn't submitted their clearance card, please have them do that at the school's finance office right away.

- The coaches and/or team captains may periodically/spontaneously schedule social events (dinner out, beach day, etc.). These are not school-sanctioned events and are optional.

- All swim/dive families are asked to raise $100 through a direct donation or by selling opportunity drawing tickets at $1 each. Any tickets over 100 can be used toward other purchases such as suits, goggles, warm-ups, or even the banquet. Your support helps the team cover expenses (pool, refs, coaches, equipment, etc.).

Athletes with financial hardships are asked to speak with Coach Gaeir or Coach Elgas for other options. The $100 donation is NOT mandatory for participation on the team.

We also ask that every family obtain a prize that can be given in the raffle drawing.

Thank you for your support!

- Team shirts are being ordered for your child. The cost of the shirt is included in the $100. We'll be sending a uniform order form for sweatsuits and other items soon. If you want a Granite parka ($145), you can order them from Sportland (on Broadway):

- Please keep up on your child's grades, as a grade below 2.0 for the upcoming grading period will disqualify them from participating in swim.

- If you child can't be at a practice or meet, please notify the coach as soon as possible. Keep in mind that he/she could attend one of the other practice times (see Schedules section on website).

- Next Tuesday, 3/7, Granite is holding a Blood Drive in the name of Mr. Michael, a Social Science teacher who is struggling mightily with cancer. It's from 8a-1:30p in the gym. We'd like to have a big turnout from the swim team athletes and parents. Donors have to be 17 years old and at least 110 pounds. If your child can donate, he/she cannot practice that day - he/she can go straight home after school.

- Granite's successful water polo programs have formed developmental teams for younger players - called Grommets for girls and boys. You can get more information here:

If you have any questions, feel free to contact a coach or myself...

Mike
